  • My dog is nervous what can you do to help?
Being in a 1-2-1 salon my full attention will be on your dog and so I will take the time needed to make sure your dog is as relaxed as possible. If your dog is allowed treats, I will reward calm behaviour and try and build positive associations. If your dog is very nervous, I can offer settling in sessions (at an extra charge) prior to their groom to get them slowly used to all the different sights, sounds and smells.
  • My dog bites can you still groom him/her?
Yes, we will try and work with your dog to calm them down and reassure them. Please note that it may be necessary to muzzle your dog for both my and their safety. However If your dog appears very distressed, we will contact you to discuss next possible steps.
  • Can I stay and watch you groom my dog?
Unfortunately we don’t allow owners to stay and watch. Dogs tend to feed off their owner’s anxiety and so we find that the dog’s behaviour is often worse with the owner present. The same applies if you come earlier than when we text or call, the groom will take longer and your dog will not settle again knowing you have arrived.
  • Do you offer late appointments?
Yes I can offer some late/evening appointments but these are on request only
  • What age should I bring my puppy to be groomed for the first time?
You should bring your puppy for an introduction groom as soon as soon as their puppy vaccinations are complete and they have the all clear from your vet (normally this is around 10-12 weeks of age). This is important as a puppy who is used to being groomed from a young age will be much more comfortable and happy being groomed as an adult.
  • How long does it take to groom my dog?
The time it takes to groom your dog depends on the breed, size and condition of the coat. Usually a groom won’t take any longer than 2.5 hours but we will discuss expected timings with you during your consultation and will contact you 20 mins prior to the end of the groom to ask you to pick up your dog.
  • Will my dog be put in a kennel while waiting?
No we do not use kennels or crates as we appreciate that not all dogs are crate trained. Your dog will be with me in the salon while waiting, playing with me or having cuddles!
  • If I bring my cat to be groomed how should I transport it?
All cats must be brought to the salon in a secure pet carrier, and while waiting after the groom they will be placed back inside their cat carrier.
  • Will you shave my dog?
We will not shave a dog without a valid reason. If your dog is matted to the skin it is my job as a groomer to act upon the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and not cause your dog unnecessary pain and suffering by brushing out excessive matting. When your dog is matted they cannot regulate their temperature, this will make their skin sore and create hot spots and may lead to infections. The best thing to do is clip them short and start their coat again, this way you can continue to comb through your dog’s coat without high maintenance. **See our matting policy for more details**
  • My dog has fleas can I still have him groomed?
If you know your dog has fleas please let us know before your groom so we don't book in dogs closely after each other. We can give your dog a flea shampoo when they first come in, but please note that the flea shampoo only kills live fleas and doesn’t kill eggs. Following the shampoo treatment you will need to properly treat your pet for fleas and also treat your home by washing bedding, using flea spray/bombs etc. **See our Flea/Parasite Policy for more details**
